The Udzungwa Mountains National Park safari will take you either from Dar es Salaam or Morogoro via Mikumi National Park. The Mountains are rich in unique biodiversity and magnificent views, where you will be able to visit the magnificent waterfalls, encounter the endemic Udzungwa primates, among other things that will give you an exceptional adventure experience.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Depart from Morogoro to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Depart from Morogoro in the morning and drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park; upon arrival, hike through lush rainforest to the stunning Sanje Waterfalls, with opportunities to spot endemic primates and birds, then check in and overnight at Twiga Hotel.

Accommodations

Our Accommodations: Twiga Hotel offers rooms and camping ground for nature lovers and hikers exploring with natural setting  and views of Udzungwa Mountains.

Day 2: Guided Forest Walk

After breakfast, enjoy a guided forest walk to explore more of the park’s biodiversity, then return to Morogoro in the afternoon with scenic views along the way, including wild animals at Mikumi National Park.

FAQs About Udzungwa National Park Safaris

Udzungwa is in southern Tanzania, near Mikumi National Park, about 350 km (5-6 hours) from Dar es Salaam and 65 km from Mikumi.

  • Best for hiking & waterfalls (no game drives!).

  • Biodiversity hotspot – home to rare primates (e.g., Sanje mangabeyIringa red colobus).

  • Less touristy than northern parks.

  • Part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, a UNESCO-recognized ecological gem.

  • Primates: Sanje mangabey, red colobus, Sykes' monkeys, galagos (bushbabies).

  • Birds: Over 400 species, including endemic Udzungwa forest partridge.

  • Small mammals & reptiles: Forest elephants (rare), chameleons, butterflies.
